E 1766 Green glass earrings

 70

Product Description:

Dark green glass earrings with gilded brass hanging hooks. The glass bead is cylindrical and around it are 3 gold painted circles. Below the bead hangs a golden small ring with a golden bead threaded inside. Above the bead cylinder is a small white bead with a tiny green and pink flower decoration in the cloisonne technique.

Cloisonne is a term that refers to an ancient enamel technique for creating jewelry, in which a thin metal wire is used to create small cells. The resulting spaces are filled with colored enamel powder (fine crushed glass).

The piece is then fired in an oven, and the powder melts and turns into a layer of colored glass. Finally, the surface is sanded and polished to make it smooth and shiny.

The result: a colorful, shiny, and very precise decoration — with metallic lines separating the colors.

(The method developed in the Near East and Byzantium, and became especially popular in China and Japan, where it was refined to a very high artistic level.)

Length of the green bead: 1.5 cm

Length of earring: 5.5 cm
